ANG LAHAT NG BAGAY AY PANTAY-PANTAY!

ANG LAHAT NG BAGAY AY PANTAY-PANTAY! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yesterday August 9, 2024 is the celebration of the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples theme 2024 is "Protecting the rights of Indigenous Peoples in Voluntary Isolation and Initial Contact." With the changes in their natural habitat threatening their survival, in an effort to promote and protect the rights of indigenous populations worldwide, the UN celebrates the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples annually. This day recognizes the unique cultures, languages, and traditions of Indigenous peoples the Yakan, Subanen, Kolibugan , Sama Bangingi and Sama Bajau well as their contributions to global diversity and sustainable development on Arts and Craft, in addition to highlighting the challenges faced, such as discrimination, marginalization, and the loss of their ancestral lands. In our region, while there is an increase in the recognition of our rights in some countries, there are also opportunistic advancements of laws allowing governments and corporations to take over resources in indigenous territories. Further, in the Philippines, there is a move by the government to replace the term “Indigenous Peoples” with “local communities” in its law. In other countries, the criminalization and prosecution of indigenous human rights defenders through terror laws continue to occur. We are deeply anguished that thousands have lost their lives and millions have been displaced in GIDA. While we express our solidarity and share sorrow with the people of the IP Community, we also appeal to the international community, especially our local leaders, to do their utmost to bring peace and justice to the country.
