ISP solemn IFTAR Celebration, a continuous #journeyforpeace and #PartnershipforHumanSecurity

After 2 years of not having to gather and observe the Iftar due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Interreligious Solidarity for Peace (ISP) had its 21st year of solemn observance of Iftar (Breaking of the Fast) in the Holy month of Ramadan to traditionally carry out this symbolic and significant gathering of Christians, Muslims, and IPs. This symbolic gathering shows that ISP has remained strong and faithful to the Tradition of the Holy Prophet Muhammad enunciated by him 1400 years ago. Some of the significant founders and members of the ISP gathered at Claret Gymnasium yesterday, 23rd April 2022 (22nd Ramadan A.H) to join Muslims all around the world in their “Breaking of the Fast” moment.

A solemn and brief program was conducted which started with an opening Dua’a led by the Imam of the moment – Shaykh Abduquddos Jamad. Then, Claret School of Zamboanga City as the host of the activity graced the attendees with a welcome message from the School Director Fr. Christopher Ligason, CMF.One of the highlights of the gathering is the Solidarity Sharing on the significance of women in the Holy Month of Ramadan, especially during this Pandemic as delivered by Ustadha Myra Apion, RN, Chairperson of Ulama Council of Zamboanga Peninsula. And, solidarity messages from the Conveners of the ISP; Fr. Dante C. Boringgot, CMF, Prof. Ali T. Yacib, Al-Hj and Rev. Pastor Rogelio “Budy” Alfaro, and ZABIDA President, Dr. Grace J. Rebollos.

In the breaking of the fast, the invited Imam officiated the ceremonial drinking of water and partaking of “fruit dates” led by the ISP conveners with Fr. Angel C. Calvo, ISP founder, and Lead Convener, Emeritus. Followed by the Iftar dinner and the host school prepared a prayer room for the Muslim attendees to attend the Maghrib. This activity is one of the many ISP advocacy actions in the promotion of Inter-religious and Inter-cultural trust and peacebuilding in the City and Region which is implemented by the Peace Component team of ZABIDA-Convenio project and the Peace Advocates Zamboanga Foundation. This activity is supported by Manos Unidas and AECID under the CONVENIO 3 Project in achieving its goal of “Peace-Building and Social Cohesion in Zamboanga City and Basilan”.
