Consultation on Women’s Role in Peace-Building

ZABIDA further strengthens its Gender and Development initiatives, Peace Advocates Zamboanga under the ZABIDA, organized a Gender and Peace-Building Activity last April 17 to 18 of this year. 25 women of different religion, backgrounds and Barangays were gathered in this 2-day consultation activity.

The activity introduced key concepts on gender and gender based violence, peace-building and conflict transformation to the selected women leaders. Special focus was given to the agency of women as connectors and healers of broken relationships, and their role as initiators or dialogue, builders of peace and conflict transformers.

The recognition of their roles will enhance their commitment as leaders who will initiate peace-building activities in their respective communities. Women serve as one of the significant sectors in every community and in every home. Women empowerment and involvement projects such as this gives value to the thoughts and voices of every mother and daughter in each community. One activity was devoted at scrutinizing the conflict issues faced by women in their respective communities.

The result of this activity will be useful especially for our partner BLGU in their community-based planning such as Public Safety Plan. As per identified conflict issue, the women were then consulted on how they can help address this issue; this will be their peace-building roles. (Felipe Lambayan/Peace Advocates Zamboanga/ZABIDA)
